The baby boomers have always been at the vanguard of cultural, social and even economic change in America. Boomers are usually categorized as those born between 1946 and 1964. This generation caused waves and upheavals by their sheer size and number.

They are usually noted as being the generation that sought to reject the more conservative values of their forefathers. They all collectively lived in an era that was more affluent than any that came before. They had easier access to higher education as well, an opportunity that many took advantage of. Rock and roll, the prevalence of recreational drug use, JFK’s assassination and Neil Armstrong walking on the moon were all events that shaped their coming-of-age.

Now as the world plods through the 21st century, the boomers enter the twilight of their lives. Though older and with more grey in their hair, they continue to spark changes on a national scale. It is estimated that by 2030, they will triple the number of senior citizens in the entire country. Estimates claim that the number of people over 65 can reach as much 70 million in the next few years. In addition, 60% of them are predicted to be afflicted with one or more chronic medical condition.

In highly populated cities like Chicago, as well as in the rest of the country, this dramatic increase in that segment’s numbers are sure to overwhelm the current health care infrastructure. The numerous healthcare developers Chicago has to offer are already being tasked to expand the city’s current capacity to better handle the anticipated higher demand in the future.

The best healthcare construction services Chicago has are also busy with other projects aside from building additional hospitals and clinics. Companies who own and operate residential care facilities such as nursing homes are also scrambling to put up additional branches and locations.

This massive push in construction has been good news for all the healthcare developers Chicago is proud to call its own. The baby boomers all over the United States have pushed the healthcare construction industry to the dizzying heights it now enjoys. With an estimated worth of more than sixty billion dollars, it is now second only to education in terms of scope.
